Gallop Through the Grange
Beres McCallum
A Gallop Through The Grange: follow the growth of a garden suburb. The Grange is an interseting Brisbane suburb which remained quite rural until the first decade of the twentieth century. Beef cattle and sheep were driven from the Newmarket Sale Yards through the Grange to the abattoirs at Gordon Park. Fat prize dairy cattle grazed in the open paddocks. Every Thursday was Drovers' Day - best to stay at home and lock your garden gate to avoid bellowing beasts, men on horseback with whips and barking dogs. This story tells of its development into the closely settled residential area of a century later. Contains pages of illustrations, portraits, facsimiles and images.
