Melanin Garden is the first book from the nationally renowned Queensland Slam Poetry champion Anisa Nandaula.  Melanin garden is a collection of Anisa Nandaula’s best slam poetry pieces. The works take readers into a boxing ring where an African Australian migrant fights with herself to come to peace with her identity whilst living in the diaspora. She uses language to paint a world that humanises migrants, refugees and minorities that are othered by society. Melanin garden is filled with work that is simultaneously personal and political, merging love poems, personal-reflections, and commenting on race and gender in a captivating manner. In the midst of global political and social injustice, Anisa’s work provides an important critique in the importance of recognising our shared humanity.
